Oriented on making people closer

The head of the Upper House of the Turkmen Parliament, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, called the Turkmen-Chinese relations exemplary in an interview with the Chinese state media, on behalf of which questions were asked by the press attache of the Chinese Embassy, Wang Jiu.

– Our states can be proud of the achieved level of mutual trust and understanding. ... There is a lively, creative process of rapprochement between the two states and peoples, strengthening the foundation of friendship and cooperation for decades to come, – said the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the support that the PRC provides to Turkmenistan in the international arena, its initiatives in the UN. In turn, Turkmenistan always clearly and unambiguously formulates its approaches to issues relevant to the Chinese partners, including those relating to the territorial integrity and unity of the PRC. “We firmly adhere to the “one China” policy and oppose any manifestations of separatism,” said the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty.

When asked about the state and potential of bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and other areas, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that both countries are heirs and continuers of the unique experience of the Silk Road, and today both countries “are called upon to give a powerful impetus to economic development in Eurasia, uniting vast spaces from the Pacific to the Atlantic."

The head of the Halk Maslakhaty called the fuel and energy sector the most important priority of cooperation, citing the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline as an example. It was noted that work is underway to increase the supply of Turkmen natural gas to China, and readiness was expressed for a substantive discussion of the construction of the 4th branch of the pipeline from Turkmenistan to China.

With regard to transport cooperation, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the importance of the fullest disclosure of the potential of multimodal transportation from China through Turkmenistan to Europe and the Middle East. And the port of Turkmenbashi on the Caspian Sea can play the role of a key logistics hub here.

During the interview, in the context of the tense situation in the world, the importance of the international initiatives of Turkmenistan and China was touched upon, which, according to the head of the Halk Maslakhaty, have a common ideological and political basis.

– They contain a call to all countries, leaders to soberly and responsibly comprehend the realities of the modern world, to think about what further escalation and military-political rivalry can lead to, to realize that humanity has approached a dangerous line, which will be followed by the demolition of the entire architecture of the global security with unpredictable consequences, – Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

– The initiatives of Turkmenistan and China are dictated by concern for millions of ordinary people who are far from politics, who need peace, stability, the opportunity to work, guarantees of a calm, peaceful future, – added the head of the Halk Maslakhaty.
