 German Chancellor makes first visit to Central Asia - Z5+1 summit to be held on 17 September

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit. He was met by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at Registan Square in Samarkand. This was reported by the press service of the Uzbek leader.

Negotiations between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, were held in a narrow format and with the participation of delegations at the Congress Center in Samarkand. Following the negotiations, eight bilateral documents were signed, including an intergovernmental Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership in the Field of Migration and Mobility; a Declaration on Cooperation in the Field of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry; a Declaration on Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Water Resource Management within the framework of the “Green Central Asia” initiative; a Joint Declaration on Cooperation in the Field of Critical Minerals; an Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Transport; and a Memorandum of Cooperation on Climate Change within the framework of the Paris Agreement."

In addition, the Program on Technological Partnership and Industrial Cooperation for 2024-2026 was adopted, and a package of agreements and contracts was concluded at the level of leading enterprises of Uzbekistan and Germany.

Uzbekistan became the first stop for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on his tour. From there, he will travel to Kazakhstan to participate in the Central Asian summit in the "5+1" format. The Chancellor is accompanied by a large and high-ranking business delegation, as reported on the website of the German government.

"The Federal Chancellor will also participate in the Z5+1 summit in Kazakhstan on 17 September. The strategic regional partnership was concluded at the first Z5+1 meeting in Berlin last year."

At the end of September last year, the leaders of five Central Asian countries arrived in Berlin. The Chancellor called the visit of the guests a special event and noted that he had agreed to a new meeting in the same format.
