Advances in robotics are steadily expanding the capabilities of modern machines. Beyond factories and laboratories, robots are increasingly being tested in challenging natural environments that demand mobility, balance and precise control.

The World Robot Mount Tai Challenge, organized by China Media Group (CMG), began on November 2 in Tai'an City, east China's Shandong Province.

Nearly 90 teams are participating in the event, featuring humanoid robots, quadruped robots and robotic exoskeletons.

The competitors face a 3.9-kilometer ancient stone pathway stretching from Hongmen to Zhongtianmen on Mount Tai.

The route includes approximately 3,100 steps and an elevation gain of 600 meters, creating a demanding test of robotic movement and stability.

Continuous stairways, steep slopes and sharp turns present significant challenges for the machines and the engineering teams behind them.

Quadruped robots are navigating the mountain path, with some carrying food supplies as additional cargo. Their performance demonstrates potential applications for robotic transportation in difficult terrain.

Humanoid robots are also attempting the ascent, testing their ability to maintain balance and coordinate movements while climbing uneven stone steps.

The historic mountain route has been transformed into a natural competition arena, allowing teams to demonstrate their latest scientific and technological achievements before spectators gathered along the course.

The event offers an opportunity to observe how different robotic systems perform outside controlled environments and how advanced engineering responds to real-world physical challenges.

As reported by SSTV+, nearly 90 teams of humanoid, quadruped and exoskeleton robots are competing in China's Mount Tai climbing challenge, tackling thousands of stone steps to demonstrate advances in robotics.
