The first meeting of the Turkmen-American working group on security was held
03.08.2022 | 03:18 |On Saturday, Ashgabat hosted a meeting of the Working Group on Security between Turkmenistan and the United States. This was the debut meeting in this format, in connection with which the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Khadzhiev expressed confidence that the current meeting would become the basis for consultations in order to progressively promote bilateral cooperation on topical issues of international security.
During the meeting, issues of both the international and regional agendas were considered, in the context of which the emphasis was placed on the need to increase the effectiveness of the fight against the challenges of the time.
Among them, special attention was paid to the issues of strengthening security due to the intensification of international terrorism, drug trafficking, and cybercrime. It was noted that in this complex of threats, the solution to the problem of information security remains the key.
Given that Afghanistan is the southern neighbor in the region, the Turkmen side, as Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Khadzhiev noted, directs its efforts to create conditions for strengthening political stability and stimulating the development of the economy of this neighboring country.
The parties, emphasizing the relevance of continuing consultations on security in the format of a bilateral Working Group, were unanimous in their opinion on the fruitful nature of multilateral contacts at the "CA-US" and Turkmenistan-US-Afghanistan platforms.
