Turkmenistan is represented at the annual summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF), which takes place in Leipzig, Germany, from May 24 to 26.
A key event in the field of global transport policy is being held under the chairmanship of the United Kingdom under the motto "Transport contributes to a sustainable economy". Through this prism, transport leaders, business leaders, heads of international organizations, parliamentarians and politicians, industry experts from about 80 countries discuss a wide range of topics, from climate change and the sustainability of supply chains to active mobility.
The Agency of Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan became a participant of the ministerial and a number of meetings on the sidelines of the forum. In particular, negotiations were held between the Turkmen side and ITF Secretary General Yang Tae Kim, during which the possibility and benefits of Turkmenistan joining the ITF were considered.
The Secretary General of the organization was also informed about the promotion of Turkmen initiatives in the field of sustainable transport and the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution on the establishment of the International Day of Sustainable Transport. Yang Tae Kim was presented with the ITTC platform created by Turkmenistan - the conference "International Transport and Transit Corridors", the next convocation of which took place on May 3-4 in Ashgabat. Promising joint projects with the ITF and cooperation under the ECMT system (a multilateral permit issued to the carrier among the participating countries of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport) were discussed.
Within the framework of the event, the Turkmen side also held a meeting with the Secretary General of the TRACECA program Asset Asavbayev, the main subject of which was the procedure for the country's accession to this organization.
Issues of joint projects were also discussed with the Chairman of the OSZhD Committee Miroslav Antonovich, including in the context of the agenda of the recent (May 15-18) OSZhD forum in Ashgabat on the Unified Transit Tariff and the International Railway Transit Tariff (ETT/MTT).
An agreement was reached on the reconciliation of the OSZhD contractual and legal framework with Turkmenistan. Turkmenistan was invited to study the issue of accession to the Agreement on Rules on Settlements in International Passenger and Freight Rail Traffic.
