In Astana, where the VI Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia was held August 9 bilateral talks between the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan took place.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev thanked Serdar Berdimuhamedov for participating in the Summit, and also noted the importance of his visit in terms of further promoting the multifaceted partnership between the countries.

The head of Kazakhstan thanked the President of Turkmenistan for his support and continued commitment to strengthening multifaceted interstate ties, according to the Akorda website.

"The governments are working to increase the volume of mutual trade to $1 billion. Our countries have all the opportunities for this. A number of projects in energy, industry, transport, logistics and other areas are at the implementation stage," Tokayev said.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the warm welcome and emphasized the dynamic development of bilateral cooperation.

"Turkmenistan pays great attention to cooperation with Kazakhstan. An active political dialogue has been established between our countries, and ties are developing in the trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres," the head of state said, noting that this fall, the President of Kazakhstan is expected in Turkmenistan on an official visit and to participate in the International Forum on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Turkmen poet Makhtumkuli Fragi.

During the meeting, the heads of state discussed the prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in the trade-economic, energy, oil and gas, transport and logistics sectors. Particular attention was paid to the expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties.
