Turkmenistan and the United States Will Update Roadmap for Cooperation in Education

On June 8, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan between Deputy Minister of Education Azat Atayev and a U.S. delegation led by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Sarah Rogers. The Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan reported on the event.
The main focus of the talks was the deepening of bilateral ties, the expansion of academic mobility, and the introduction of digital technologies for training specialists needed in modern sectors of the economy.
The U.S. side highly praised the reforms taking place in Turkmenistan’s education system, including the implementation of a long-term strategy for the development of higher education institutions through 2052 and the country’s accession to the Lisbon Convention.

During the meeting, the American delegation presented several specific proposals, including the development of joint MBA programs in partnership with Kent State University, the expansion of Turkmen students’ participation in the FLEX exchange program, and the establishment of an institutional alumni network of U.S. educational programs to strengthen people-to-people ties.
The Turkmen side expressed strong interest in studying advanced U.S. experience and best practices. Particular attention will be given to the international accreditation of universities, the assessment of educational quality through internationally recognized testing tools such as SAT, TOEFL, and GRE, as well as cooperation with leading digital platforms, including Coursera and OpenAI, to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into education.
The meeting concluded with a decision to update the joint Roadmap for Cooperation. The revised document will include priorities such as the development of digital ecosystems, the application of AI technologies, and new inter-university projects. These initiatives are expected to elevate Turkmen-American humanitarian and educational cooperation to a new qualitative level.
