Seoul and Ashgabat Are Moving into the Practical Phase of Joint Smart Water Management Projects
Seoul, July 23 | ORIENT. A specialized interagency visit by a government delegation from Turkmenistan, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment of the Republic of Korea, concluded in Seoul. Joint consultations with relevant specialists, the engineering focus and preparatory phase of which ORIENT previously reported in detail, focused on the direct implementation of Korean digital technologies in Turkmenistan's water management system and the preparation of the substantive framework for the upcoming Central Asia-Republic of Korea Summit in September.
The Turkmen team included senior representatives of the State Water Resources Committee, specialists from the Water Resources Engineering Research Institute, and diplomats. During the visit, the Turkmen experts thoroughly examined the work of the main operations center of the state-owned K-water Corporation, the advanced Hwaseong Water Treatment Plant equipped with artificial intelligence, and the hydraulic infrastructure of the Gyeongin-Ara Canal. Particular emphasis was placed on introducing innovative solutions from Korean private companies in the field of digital channel monitoring, water loss prevention, and automated filtration.
The visit's program coincided with the Multilateral Meeting on Water Industry Cooperation between Korea and Central Asian Countries. During the talks, Korean Ambassador for Climate Change Kyung Jeong-ho and Director General for Water Policy Kim Ho-eun emphasized that the dialogue with the region is moving from theory to large-scale supplies of high-tech equipment and joint construction of facilities.
Bilateral contacts between Ashgabat and Seoul, launched last year as part of a public-private partnership, are now laying a solid foundation for the implementation of major joint investment and environmental projects.
