President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Foreign Minister of Japan Toshimitsu Motegi in Ashgabat on August 30. At the beginning of the meeting, the diplomat conveyed warm greetings from Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to the head of state and Chairman of the People's Council, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Berdimuhamedov reciprocated his best wishes to the Japanese leadership and expressed confidence that this visit would provide a powerful impetus to bilateral dialogue.

During the conversation, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan considers partnership with Japan a key element in its strategy for interaction with countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The parties noted the successful coordination of efforts both at the UN and within the framework of the Central Asia-Japan Dialogue. The head of state warmly recalled his working visit to Japan to participate in the first summit of this format, during which productive talks were held with Emperor Naruhito and the head of the Japanese government.

The interlocutors paid special attention to interparliamentary diplomacy, praising the role of the relevant Friendship Group in exchanging legislative experience. Trade and economic cooperation were recognized as a key focus, with particular hopes placed on the work of the Turkmen-Japanese Committee on Economic Cooperation.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov highlighted the successful implementation of large-scale industrial projects in the gas and chemical industries with the participation of Itochu, Toyo Engineering, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, reaffirming Japan's commitment to expanding its presence in the Turkmen market. The meeting concluded with a renewed emphasis on cultural and humanitarian ties, reciprocal Culture Days, and exhibition projects that strengthen the bridges of friendship between the two nations.
