Within the framework of the preparations for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the government of Japan launches a teleworking campaign. Employees from about 1,000 companies mainly based in the Tokyo metropolitan area worked outside their regular workplaces on the teleworking test day. According to The Japan News, the experiment was a success and the government plans to hold a telework promotion campaign on the day every year through 2020. The teleworking campaign is aimed at tacking the road traffic problems as traffic congestion is expected during the Games. The government of Japan expects teleworking to improve work productivity and efficiency. Therefore, the government administration regards work style reforms as a key policy area.
