The Turkmen delegation is taking part in the meeting of the 69th session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, which is held on April 20-21 both in person at the Palais des Nations in Geneva and remotely. The forum's agenda is centered around economic integration and cooperation and includes a high-level segment on ways to stimulate a circular economy and sustainable use of natural resources. The Minister of Economy and Finance of Turkmenistan Muhametgeldy Serdarov is participating in the discussions of the Dialogue at a high level. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the High-Level Dialogue focused on policy initiatives to promote the transition to a more circulating economy and sustainable management of natural resources, and the role of international cooperation in accelerating progress. This dialogue examines the measures that governments and other stakeholders are taking that lead to improved economic well-being, resilience and inclusiveness, while reducing the pressure on the environment. Examples come from a variety of areas: waste management, innovative business models and social practices, energy transformation and smart city experiences. Participants include representatives from governments, civil society, academia, the private sector and the UN system. The election of officers will be held within the framework of the meeting of the UNECE Executive Committee. At each biennial session, the commission elects a country to preside over the biennium. The representative of the chosen country becomes the chairman. At the same meeting, the commission also elects two countries, whose representatives become vice-chairmen for a biennium. The Chairman and his Vice-Chairs will also serve as Chair and Vice-Chairs of the Board for the biennium. Turkmenistan has put forward its candidacy for the post of Deputy Chairman of the UN Economic Commission for Europe for the next two years. The country was already deputy chairman of the commission from 2012 to 2014. As Olga Algayerova, the UNECE Executive Secretary, said at the international forum recently organized by Ashgabat, “Turkmenistan is a valued and active member of the UNECE ”. She also noted the “concrete and impressive achievements” of bilateral cooperation.
