Turkmenistan may increase swap supplies of natural gas to Azerbaijan through Iran, and negotiations on this topic are currently underway between representatives of the relevant departments. Azerbaijani Ambassador to Tehran Ali Alizade told about this in an interview with Iranian media, Interfax reports.

There are also new initiatives aimed at strengthening multilateral cooperation in the field of blue fuel supplies, and they are now being evaluated, the diplomat added. The Ambassador expressed hope that the project would be useful not only to its direct participants (Ashgabat, Tehran, and Baku), but also contribute to the development of regional cooperation.

Earlier, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Oudji told the media that the volume of Turkmen gas supplies to Azerbaijan through Iran could be increased up to 15 billion cubic meters per year.

Now Azerbaijan buys 2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas per year through Iran under a swap supply contract, which was signed in November 2021. More than 4 million cubic meters of blue fuel are supplied from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan every day.

In December, it became known that Turkmenistan significantly increased the supply of natural gas to Russia. Exports reached 10 billion cubic meters, twice the level of supplies in 2020.

The issue of increasing the supply of Turkmen blue fuel to China through the 4th line D of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline was discussed last week during negotiations President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping.
