Early voting in the presidential elections in Turkmenistan
On Wednesday, March 2, early voting began in the presidential elections in Turkmenistan. According to the CEC, it is held daily from 8 am to 6 pm.
In accordance with Article 73 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, voters who are unable to be at their place of residence on election day have the right to vote early.
Early voting is held at polling stations and begins ten days before election day. A total of 2,618 polling stations have been formed, including 364 in the Akhal region, 272 in the Balkan region, 523 in the Dashoguz region, 559 in the Lebap region, and 549 in the Mary region. 310 polling stations have been opened in Ashgabat.
In the diplomatic institutions of Turkmenistan abroad, 41 polling stations have been established for voting.
Members of the CIS Observer Mission have already visited various polling stations in Ashgabat, familiarized themselves with their equipment, the composition of election commissions, and the course of early voting.
Nine candidates are running for the highest state post in Turkmenistan. Three of them are from parties: Serdar Berdimuhamedov - Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers (Democratic Party); Agadzhan Bekmyradov - Deputy Head of the Mary region (Agrarian Party); Babamyrat Meredov - Director of the Economic Society "Wepaly gurluşyk" (Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs).
From the initiative groups of citizens, Perhat Begendzhov, director of the Lebap financial and economic secondary vocational school, Berdymammet Gurbanov, head physician of the Avaza sanatorium in the Balkan region, Maksatmyrat Ovezgeldiev, head of the Babadaikhan district SES of the Akhal region, Kakageldi Sariyev, director of the research and production center of the State Energy Institute in Mary, Khydyr Nunnaev - Vice-Rector of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports (Ashgabat) and Maksat Odeshov - Chairman of the District Committee of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan from the Dashoguz region.
