China to host third meeting of Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan's neighboring countries
Until the end of March, China will host the third meeting of foreign ministers of the countries of the region on Afghanistan. Afghan Foreign Ministry Deputy Spokesperson Hafiz Zia Ahmad said on Twitter on Tuesday that Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki met with Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu to discuss bilateral relations as well as the upcoming regional meeting on Afghanistan in China.
“During the meeting, the focus was on strengthening relations between both countries, political and economic issues, and convening and participating in a regional meeting of foreign ministers to be held in China later this month,” Ahmad said, adding that Muttaki will attend in that meeting.
Earlier, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi also said that China is preparing for the third meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighboring countries. Wang said on Monday that his country is ready to contribute to lasting stability and security in Afghanistan.
First meeting of Foreign Ministers of six countries neighboring Afghanistan, including Iran , China, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, was hosted by Pakistan last September.
Second meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the countries of the region took place in October last year in Iran, where the participants issued a joint statement and called for the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
