Russian wheat varieties "Alekseevich" and "Bezostaya" in the near future will displace Krasnodar varieties "Batko", "Vassa" and "Yuna" previously used for cultivation in Turkmenistan, the Turkmenistan newspaper reports.

The main reason for this transition is the high yield of new varieties. Thus, the frost-resistant "Alekseevich" can demonstrate a record yield of 130 quintals per hectare, and "Bezostaya" has increased drought resistance and high protein and gluten content.

Traditional varieties grown in most of the country's territory yield 30% less than those that are to be massively introduced in Turkmenistan.

This year, farmers of the Lebap region, who planted new varieties of winter wheat on an area of 34 thousand hectares, received the first young shoots of the crop. To fulfil the grain delivery plan for the Eastern region of the country, it is necessary to collect an average of 80 quintals per hectare from 130 thousand hectares.
