The Chinese authorities have abolished the mandatory wearing of masks in public transport and schools, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reports.

According to the document published by the State Council of the country, the wearing of masks is henceforth advisory in nature. The new provision applies to all public places with a large crowd of people.

Mandatory wearing of masks is maintained only for COVID-19 patients, those who show symptoms of this disease, as well as when visiting medical institutions and nursing homes.
