Ashgabat hosted the UN event "Counterterrorism Early Warning Network for Central Asia". This was reported on the website of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The event is organized by the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism and the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia.

Representatives of state structures of Turkmenistan and international organizations discussed joint criteria and approaches to ensuring security in the region. In this regard, the experience of regional structures, including the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center, was presented in organizing information exchange and interaction with civil society institutions in the field of countering terrorism and extremism.

The Early Warning Network was developed as part of the fourth phase of the project “Towards the comprehensive implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia”. Its goal is to strengthen the capacity of law enforcement, security, customs and border services at the national and regional levels in developing effective counter-terrorism strategies and measures to adequately respond to security challenges and threats. It also aims to improve cooperation and coordination among law enforcement agencies, including through improved information sharing.
