Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Ankara on Wednesday and discussed with him the relations between the two countries in all their aspects.

The statement released by the Turkish Presidential Communications Department said that Erdogan discussed with Wang Yi the more effective activation of dialogue and consultation mechanisms between the two countries, stressed the need to intensify efforts to coordinate the One Belt, One Road and Middle Corridor initiatives, pointing out that the first meeting of the high-level working group established for this purpose is scheduled.

The Middle Corridor - the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route - opens up new opportunities for the transportation of goods from China to Europe through the Caspian Sea (ports of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan) to the Caucasus region (Azerbaijan and Georgia) and further to Turkey.

The statement added: "It was discussed what can be done to bring bilateral trade between Turkey and China to a more balanced and sustainable level, as well as to increase mutual investment."

President Erdogan expressed his desire for the two countries to play an important role in global and regional issues by further intensifying cooperation between the two sides.

Earlier today, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed bilateral relations with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
