The Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Brussels met with one of the key figures in the European Parliament


The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium and Head of the Delegation to the European Union, Sapar Palvanov, held a meeting on Monday, November 6, in Brussels with David McAllister, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament and a prominent figure in the European People's Party faction.
During the meeting, the ambassador emphasized the important role of inter- parliamentary dialogue in strengthening closer ties between Turkmenistan and the European Union. The discussion focused on the role of such dialogue as a means to strengthen partnerships across a range of interests, including political engagement, economic development and cultural exchange.
Emphasizing the importance of the visit of the European Parliament delegation to Turkmenistan in June this year, led by MEP Tomasz Zdechowski, Ambassador Palvanov noted the importance of such meetings for a comprehensive exchange of views with various Turkmen structures, including government agencies, the private sector and public organizations of the country.
As it was emphasized, the meetings held within the framework of the mentioned visit were not just ceremonial, but substantive, laying the foundation for further practical interaction.
During the conversation, Ambassador Palvanov highlighted a number of existing cooperation mechanisms between Turkmenistan and the EU. Among them, the Joint Committee and dialogue in the field of human rights are noted - key for both sides.

Following the recent adoption in October of the Roadmap for Deepening Ties between the EU and Central Asia, the Ambassador spoke of its importance as a guide for the future of relations.
Particular attention during the meeting was paid to the large-scale socio-economic reforms currently being carried out in Turkmenistan.
For his part, David McAllister outlined the EU's strategic perspective, identifying Central Asia as one of the priority regions.
The MEP outlined key aspects of the work of the European Parliament ahead of the upcoming elections in 2024. McAllister expressed a positive view of the existing formats of cooperation: EU-Central Asia, Central Asia-Germany, emphasizing the EU's commitment to these relations.
