Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Berdyniyaz Myatiev accepted copies of credentials from the new Ambassador of the Republic of Benin to Turkmenistan (with residence in Moscow) Akambi Andre Okunlola-Biau.

Myatiev congratulated the diplomat on the appointment, which, in his opinion, will give impetus to the development of relations between Turkmenistan and Benin.

The parties reviewed the prospects for coordinated cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international organizations such as the UN, ECOSOC and others and exchanged views on establishing political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Benin, establishing and developing bilateral trade and economic relations, and also noted the importance of establishing cooperation in cultural -humanitarian sphere, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.

Benin is located on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea of the Atlantic Ocean. The capital is the city of Porto-Novo, but the economic center of the country is the port city of Cotonou, which is an important link in the transit trade system in West Africa. The country exports cotton, peanuts, cashews, palm oil, corn and pineapples. Benin depends 90% on electricity imports and almost 100% on energy imports.
