Willy Wonka's chocolate sculpture unveiled at Trafalgar Square in London
A 1.87-meter-high sculpture inspired by the main character of the new film "Wonka" has been unveiled in Trafalgar Square in London.
Created in an iconic pose, the character was handcrafted from more than 100 liters of melted chocolate by chocolate sculptor Jen Lindsey-Clark and a small team, according to the British news agency SWNS.
The artists spent 200 hours over two weeks carving Willy Wonka in full size using exclusively chocolate. Only the head of the statue has a center not made of cocoa product.
"For me, as a chocolate sculptor, it was an absolute dream," said Jen, who recently created a bust of King Charles before the coronation.
"Almost everyone in the confectionery world has been inspired in one way or another by the magic of Willy Wonka and Dahl's inventive storytelling," she added.
"I grew up on books and as a child I watched Wilder's original film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with interest every Easter and Christmas, so the opportunity to bring such a persistent character to life in chocolate was such a labor of love," Jen admitted.
The new film, starring Timothy Chalamet as Wonka and Hugh Grant as Oompa-Loompa, was released on Friday by Warner Bros. It is the latest in a line of films based on Roald Dahl's literary classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The film tells about the life of a young Willy Wonka, full of ideas and determined to change the world and go the way to become an iconic candy manufacturer, who was recognized and loved by several generations.
Shortly after the presentation of the sculpture, it was moved, apparently so that pedestrians would not start gnawing on the masterpiece.
