The science fiction novel, written by Shen Yang, Professor of the Tsinghua University in Beijing using artificial intelligence, was awarded a National Science Fiction Award. The popular science fiction competition was held in Jiangsu by the Science Fiction Writers Association.

The volume of the science fiction story “Land of Memories” in the Chinese language of the story is almost 6 thousand characters. The author created a novella based on a draft of 43 thousand characters in just three hours using 66 tips.

According to the storyline, at the edge of the metaverse lies the “Land of Memories” - a forbidden realm where people are prohibited from entering. This is where complete illusions live, created by humanoid robots and AI who have lost their memory. Any violator, be it a human or an artificial creature, will lose his memory and remain forever in her forbidden embrace. The plot centers on a metaverse researcher named Li Xiao, who worked as a neuroengineer in the real world. Having accidentally lost all the memories of her family during an experiment, she becomes interested in the legend of the Land of Memories and hopes that in the metaverse she will be able to restore her lost memories...

Only one of the competition judges was informed that Shen used AI to write the piece.

“After we prepared dozens of hints, the AI generated all the content - from the author’s name, title and text to illustrations for the text,” Shen says.

The illustrations for the novel were also created by artificial intelligence.
