By the decision of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS on June 8, 2023, the city of Tashkent was declared the Youth Capital of the CIS in 2024.

Tashkent is one of the largest cities in Central Asia. Of its more than 3 million residents, half are under 30, including about half a million between the ages of 18 and 30.

There are more than 80 higher national and international educational institutions in Tashkent. The work of 1,611 sports facilities in mahallas, 24 multifunctional sports schools, 31 cultural centers, 108 libraries, including the largest library in Uzbekistan - the Alisher Navoi National Library, which operates around the clock, 11 cinemas, 22 cultural parks, 1,400 educational and vocational training centers is aimed at organizing meaningful leisure time for young people and recreation. The city has many large sports facilities.

In Tashkent, there are cultural centers of the CIS member states: Azerbaijan Cultural Center named after Heydar Aliyev, Kazakh National Cultural Center, Russian National Cultural Center and Armenian National Cultural Center of Uzbekistan, Republican Azerbaijan National Cultural Center, Republican Turkmen Cultural Center of the city of Tashkent, Belarusian Cultural Center " Svitanak.”

A good basis for the practical implementation of the project “Youth Capital of the CIS” in 2024 in Tashkent should be the detailed action plan developed by the Uzbek partners, which was approved by the Youth Council of the CIS member states following the meeting held in Minsk on October 19, 2023.

Among the planned events are the opening and closing ceremonies of the implementation of the named international project in Tashkent, the presentation of the “Youth Capital of the CIS” certificate to the city, and the online exhibition “Tashkent - Youth Capital of the CIS”.

The next meeting of the Council for Youth Affairs of the CIS member states will be held in Tashkent. A scientific and practical conference on the study of youth problems, an Olympiad and a Paralympiad of five initiatives among the youth of the Commonwealth countries will be organized in the city.

A number of youth forums will take place. An important place in this list will rightfully be given to the Forum of Youth Public Organizations of the CIS Member States, which the organizers plan to hold in March next year. And in July, a Forum of Youth Parliaments of the CIS Member States is planned.

Among the sporting events planned for the summer of 2024, a chess tournament among the youth of the Commonwealth countries can be noted.

A business marathon awaits young entrepreneurs in December. And literature lovers from the CIS countries will be able to take part in the “Young Reader” competition, which has been held in Uzbekistan for several years.

The Association of Volunteers of Uzbekistan plans to share experience in scientific and educational support for volunteer activities and organize an online conference “On the Path of Good Deeds”, and in June - hold an International Volunteer Festival.
