The Year of Ecology has started in the SCO
The Year of Ecology has begun within the framework of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This is reported by the Xinhua news Agency with reference to the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Aybek Smadiyarov.
According to him, the Year starts with thematic events in educational institutions, as well as actions conducted by the SCO Secretariat.
Environmental organizations in total plan to hold about 20 joint events within the framework of this project, including those dedicated to World Environment Day, World Water Day, International Day of Biological Diversity and World Forest Protection Day.
"We consider the events initiated by the Kazakh presidency as a significant contribution of the Organization to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals," Smadiyarov said, adding that Kazakhstan will continue to promote the adoption of practical measures by the SCO to protect the environment.
Kazakhstan's initiative to declare 2024 the Year of Ecology in the SCO was supported by the member states in July last year.
