Turkmenistan occupies a prominent position in the field of export of both natural gas and electricity thanks to existing and under construction generating capacities, Turkish Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ahmet Demirok said at his press conference in Ashgabat on January 25. He expressed hope “that work on transporting Turkmen natural gas and electricity to Western markets will begin in the near future.”

The ambassador said that Turkey could be a good corridor and route for gas.

Turkey aims to become a gas hub, Demirok said. “Our work in this regard with Russia continues, of course, we do not want to limit ourselves only to Russian gas, we want to diversify supplies,” the ambassador added.

Last December, Vice President of Turkey Cevdet Yilmaz, during the Turkmen-Turkish business forum held in Ashgabat, said: “We are ready to jointly undertake and develop new and very large-scale projects to deliver both Turkmen electricity and natural gas to world markets.”
