Turkmenistan is planning a number of events with the EU and UN structures
During a government meeting on Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov voiced a number of constructive proposals for the progressive development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
These proposals were a logical consequence of the working visits made this month to Belgium and Italy, the progress of which was covered by ORIENT.
Let us present them in a generalized form:
1) Hold a meeting of the foreign ministers of Central Asia and the European Union in the Turkmen capital this October;
2) Send representatives of the national parliament to Brussels in the second half of 2024, which will further strengthen ties between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the European Parliament;
3) Organize regular visits to Turkmenistan by EU representatives throughout the year;
4) Prepare a draft Framework Agreement between Turkmenistan and the European Union in the energy sector and create an appropriate group to intensify further interaction.
5) Work on the issue of creating an EU-Central Asia Transport Coordination Platform.
6) Create, together with relevant European structures, new educational programs in the field of professional training;
7) Conduct a Human Rights Dialogue in Ashgabat in June in the Turkmenistan-EU format.
8) Begin targeted work on Turkmenistan’s accession to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD);
9) Hold an International Forum on Food Security in November in the Turkmen capital together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Head of State Serdar Berdimuhamedov, having approved these proposals presented by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, emphasized that the negotiations held in Brussels and Rome would further deepen the dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
