The “Quantum Pact”, which should make Europe the world center of quantum computing has been signed
EU leaders have signed the Quantum Pact, which aims to lay the foundation for cooperation, investment and innovation in quantum computing technologies in the EU and make Europe the “quantum valley of the world”.
Quantum computing will have applications in many areas, including medicine, energy and climate modeling. Quantum computing will boost productivity, boost industry and open up new markets, spokesman Thomas Skordas said.
The pact was signed by 20 European countries: Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. Ireland did not sign the pact.
They pledge to expand mutually beneficial cooperation to improve and accelerate research, development and innovation in the field of quantum computing, and to promote job creation and widespread use of quantum technologies in the economy.
“Only by building on our strengths, working together, showing ambition, focusing on the full spectrum of activities - research, industry, infrastructure, talent, external partnerships and much more - we can make Europe the world's leading region for quantum excellence and innovation. Quantum computing will help us challenge the boundaries of what is possible,” Skordas said.
