The new mosque in the city of Anau opened on Wednesday, March 27, with the participation of National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The opening, which took place during the Muslim holy month of Oraza, complemented the mass cultural events on the occasion of the proclamation of the city of Anau as the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2024.

The total area of the religious building is 6 hectares; 500 people can pray here at the same time. The four minarets are 50 meters high and the domes are 30 meters high. The interior decoration uses motifs of wheat ears, indicating that Anau is the birthplace of white wheat and the birthplace of agricultural culture. The color scheme of the ornaments is identical to the colors of the images on the famous Seyit Dzhemaletdin mosque, the ruins of which are located in the south of Anau. It was destroyed by the Ashgabat earthquake in 1948. Now its restored decorative elements are exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people proposed calling the new religious building “Seyit Dzhemaletdin Mosque.” The venerable elders approved and supported this proposal, TDH writes.

In the coming days, on the occasion of Gadyr Gidjesi of the holy month of Oraza, the same new mosques will open in the regions of the country, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during sadaka-agzachar in the new mosque in the city of Anau.
