The train, fully working on solar energy, will be launched this week in Australia. Its 3 km route will take place near the resort town of Byron Bay, in the state of New South Wales. "We just found the old lineup, repaired it and supplied it with an engine running from a power source with an age of 4.6 billion years," explains Jeremy Holmes, director for development of the Byron Bay Railroad Company. His company cooperated with many local experts, including ELMOFO, a company actively working on electric motors. The components of the train are merely converted cars of the classic passenger train, which previously had two diesel engines. One of them was replaced by an electric motor and a battery, and the other was left as a reserve in case of emergencies. According to calculations, the power of the battery with a rating of 77kV / h should be enough for trips during the whole day. It will be charged from the solar panels on the roof of the cars, and from the batteries located by the stations along the route. The train can carry up to 100 passengers at a time. The electric train will go along the route in the test mode until January of the next year. The transition of trains to work from renewable energy sources is rapidly gaining momentum. So, at the beginning of this year the Netherlands have presented an electric train, working entirely on wind power. And in India, a train was created that uses solar energy for various internal systems, such as air supply, lighting, etc.
