American students - in the role of Turkmen diplomats
Students of one of the American educational institutions for a few days turned into Turkmen diplomats and tried to have a whirl at the international political arena, though improvised one.
A group of students from St.Paul High School, California, acted as a delegation from Turkmenistan at Model United Nations Conference, held recently in Columbus, Ohio.
According to the scenario of the forum, each "UN member country", represented by a group of students from various universities, colleges, was supposed to put forward its resolution on the designated topic during the conference and justify the relevance of its adoption in group debates.
The "Turkmen" delegates suggested to establish the committee in the structure of an authoritative international organization to improve the energy efficiency of power plants. The students explained their choice by the fact that today there are enough technical obsolete non-environmental power plants in the world.
In addition, this theme is quite in tune with Turkmenistan's official foreign policy line on ensuring environmental and energy security.
After the preparation of the resolution and its presentation, it is necessary to enlist as many voices as possible in support of their initiative, and everything depends on the credibility of the facts, eloquence and, sometimes, behind-the-scenes conversations and negotiations.
The Model United Nations, held in many countries of the world, including Turkmenistan, is a combination of a scientific conference and an intellectual role-playing game that allows students to acquire diplomatic, language skills, oratory and the ability to arrange compromise decisions - in short, erudition tools required in any professional field in the future.
At the stage of preparation for the event, the participants, as a rule, carry out a huge work. Students who have to try on the role of international negotiators in order to better understand the nation represented, study not only its modern foreign policy image, but also get acquainted with the internal course, history, culture of the people, thereby enriching their mental outlook and the knowledge treasury.
