President of Turkmenistan congratulates Pope Leo XIV on his enthronement
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on the occasion of his enthronement.
In his message, the head of state expressed confidence that the pontiff will make every effort to strengthen the spiritual values of humanity, unity and peace.
Using the opportunity, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also wished Pope Leo XIV good health and success in his responsible mission.
This underlines Turkmenistan's commitment to the principles of interfaith dialogue and strengthening peace, which occupy a central place in the country's foreign policy. Turkmenistan actively advocates for the promotion of universal values and mutual understanding in the international arena, seeing the Holy See as an important partner in this direction.
On May 18, the Vatican hosted a solemn mass to mark the official beginning of the ministry (enthronement) of the 267th Pope, Bishop of Rome Leo XIV.
The day before, on May 16, Pope Leo XIV met with the diplomatic corps accredited to the Vatican. The meeting was attended by Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Holy See Vepa Khadzhiev.
Robert Francis Prevost was elected Pope in early May after the death of his predecessor Francis and took the name Leo XIV.
