On May 27, the Moscow office of the CIS Executive Committee hosted a meeting between CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, Kakha Imnadze.

The parties discussed the current state and prospects for cooperation between the CIS and the UN in Central Asia. Sergey Lebedev spoke about the forums and conferences planned by the Commonwealth aimed at strengthening security in the region, and Kakha Imnadze shared similar plans of the UN Regional Center, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reports. Sergey Lebedev also noted that in 2024, the practice of distributing documents adopted within the CIS to the United Nations was continued.

In particular, the following texts were presented:

• Statements by the heads of state of the CIS member states on the development of cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence for civilian purposes;

• Appeals by the heads of state of the Commonwealth of Independent States to the peoples of the Commonwealth countries and the world community in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945;

• Statements by the ministers of foreign affairs of the CIS member states on ensuring safe conditions for the professional activities of journalists and preventing the infringement of their rights; in connection with the 30th anniversary of granting the CIS observer status at the UN General Assembly; on cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports; on the principles of cooperation in ensuring security in Eurasia; on the inadmissibility of using unilateral restrictive measures in international relations.

The United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), headquartered in Ashgabat, promotes partnerships between Central Asian countries through cooperation with regional and international organizations. The Centre facilitates dialogue between governments in the region to address emerging issues and prevent threats, maintains regular contacts with international organizations operating in the region, coordinates conflict prevention efforts, and cooperates with other UN agencies in the field of sustainable development.
