Visit of the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan: meeting with the President of Turkmenistan and inter-parliamentary dialogue
Turkmenistan received Chairman of the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani on a visit - high-level meetings were held, emphasizing the desire of both countries to strengthen multifaceted cooperation. The visit was marked by a reception with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Saturday, May 31.
During the meeting, the Pakistani guest conveyed warm greetings from the President and Prime Minister of his country, highly appreciating the achievements of Turkmenistan. President Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that this visit will give a new impetus to the development of inter-parliamentary ties between the two friendly states.
The parties noted the successful long-term development of cooperation in various fields: from political-diplomatic and trade-economic to transport-energy, educational and cultural-humanitarian.
Particular attention was paid to international initiatives. Serdar Berdimuhamedov recalled that 2025 was declared by the UN as the International Year of Peace and Trust on the initiative of Turkmenistan, which is especially significant in the year of the 30th anniversary of the country's neutrality. In this regard, the President invited Yousuf Raza Gilani and members of the Senate of Pakistan to take part in the planned events.
The important role of inter-parliamentary relations in bilateral and international cooperation was emphasized. The effectiveness of the existing parliamentary Friendship Groups in exchanging experience in lawmaking and developing parliamentary diplomacy was noted.
On the same day, a meeting was held between Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova and the head of the Senate of Pakistan and members of the delegation. The parties emphasized the importance of the UN resolutions initiated by Turkmenistan on the Year of Peace and Trust and Permanent Neutrality, noting Pakistan's support for these initiatives. The significant role of the working visit of National Leader of the Turkmen People Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Pakistan for the development of bilateral cooperation was especially noted.
The key role of the inter-parliamentary dialogue and the established bilateral friendship groups in exchanging experience in lawmaking and expanding cooperation in various fields was emphasized.
The parties expressed confidence in the further development of traditionally friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Pakistan.
