Following the talks between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh held on June 2 in Ulaanbaatar, the heads of state made a joint statement to the press, announcing a new stage in the development of bilateral relations.

President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh called the visit historic, opening a new page in cooperation between the two countries. The parties adopted a joint statement that will determine further directions and a "road map" for cooperation in all areas.

A number of important intergovernmental agreements were signed during the visit, including agreements on air and international automobile communications, cooperation in animal husbandry and other documents covering the areas of transport, logistics, tourism, agriculture, veterinary medicine, trade, economics, customs, light industry, science, culture, education, media and healthcare. A total of 14 documents were signed.

Of particular importance, according to the Mongolian leader, are the agreement on the establishment of a Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, the intergovernmental agreement on economic cooperation and the medium-term program for the development of cooperation in trade, economy and investment for 2026-2028. The creation of joint committees on automobile transport, agriculture and livestock farming was also named an important step.

The presidents noted the agreement on the joint implementation of projects in the light industry, combining Mongolian wool and cashmere with Turkmen cotton and textiles. The importance of developing cooperation in education and science, as well as establishing sister city relations between Ulaanbaatar and Ashgabat was emphasized, the press service of the President of Mongolia said.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation within the UN and other international organizations, in particular, in matters of environmental protection and combating climate change. Mongolia expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for joining the initiative to establish the International Research Centre for Landlocked Developing Countries.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the achievement of consensus on all issues discussed and stressed that both countries will continue to closely cooperate in maintaining regional and global stability, implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and cooperating in the fields of ecology, food and energy security, as well as road transport. He highly appreciated the constructive role of Mongolia in the international arena.

The heads of state also agreed to join efforts in the fight against global challenges and threats to international security. During the talks, special attention was paid to trade and economic cooperation and the development of transport links, including Turkmenistan's initiative "Revival of the Great Silk Road", as well as the potential for cooperation in energy and communications.

In conclusion, the historical significance of the first state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Mongolia was emphasized for the further development of friendly, equal and mutually beneficial relations between the two countries. The visit also included a Turkmen-Mongolian business forum and a joint cultural performance.
