Turkmenistan and China expand cultural and humanitarian exchanges
On June 5, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Deputy Foreign Minister Akhmet Gurbanov and Deputy Governor of the People's Government of Gansu Province of China Lei Siwei.
During productive talks, the parties confirmed the dynamic development of Turkmen-Chinese relations of comprehensive strategic partnership in a wide range of areas. Particular attention was paid to building up contacts in the fields of science, education, culture and art. The interlocutors agreed that these areas have become a powerful tool for bringing the friendly Turkmen and Chinese peoples closer together.
At the meeting, it was noted that the number of Turkmen citizens studying Chinese in secondary schools and higher educational institutions of the country is steadily growing. In addition, numerous Turkmen students successfully receive education in China, which is a clear indication of the strengthening humanitarian ties.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed mutual confidence in further enhancing fruitful relations between Turkmenistan and China, designed for the long term and meeting the common interests of the two countries.
Gansu Province, located in northwestern China, is a historical crossroads and a key hub on the ancient Silk Road that connected China with Central Asia and further to the West. It is known for its rich historical and cultural heritage, including the famous Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and evidence of centuries-old cultural exchange.
It is noteworthy that the visit of the Chinese delegation and the discussion of humanitarian cooperation are taking place against the backdrop of active cultural dialogue. On June 3, a grand opening ceremony of a large-scale cultural event "Meeting and Gratitude" dedicated to Chinese-Turkmen cultural exchange was held in Ashgabat. The ceremony, which attracted more than 200 officials, diplomats and representatives from both sides, saw a symbolic exchange of gifts between national museums and equestrian associations, including a Chinese edition of a collection of works by Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi and exquisite porcelain items.
As part of the event, two major exhibitions showcasing China’s rich heritage opened at the State Academy of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan: “Racing Horses – The 2025 China Equestrian Culture Exhibition” and “Chinese White – The Art of Dehua Porcelain”. The former features more than 150 items, including saddles, photographs, calligraphy, paintings and sculptures, illustrating the diversity of Chinese equestrian traditions. The Dehua Porcelain Exhibition showcases more than 40 examples of contemporary white porcelain, including equestrian-themed pieces, symbolizing the historical contacts between the two countries.
The exhibitions will run until early July, offering visitors a rare opportunity to explore the cultural ties between China and Turkmenistan.
