Japan is preparing to implement an innovative "Fuji Tram" designed to transport tourists to Mount Fuji. The primary feature of this transportation system is its trackless design: it utilizes rubber wheels and operates on conventional roads. The key technology employed here is a system of magnetic markers embedded in the road surface, which guides the tram's movement, ensuring precision and safety without the need for traditional railway tracks.

This decision by the Yamanashi Prefectural Government stems from its desire to efficiently manage the growing influx of visitors to the UNESCO World Heritage site. The magnetic system was deemed optimal for its safety, cost-effectiveness, and potential for regulating tourist traffic.

The "Fuji Tram" will operate from the base of the mountain to its 5th Station. Following its launch, the movement of other vehicular traffic along this route will be restricted. This initiative aims to control visitor numbers, thereby reducing the burden on Mount Fuji and contributing to the preservation of its natural environment.
