A meeting was held at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Islamabad between Ambassador of Turkmenistan Atajan Movlamov and newly appointed High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan (head of the diplomatic mission, equal in status to the Ambassador) Rear Admiral Fred Seneviratne (retired).

At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Movlamov warmly welcomed the High Commissioner, congratulated him on his new appointment and wished him success in his future work.

During the conversation, the parties focused on the current situation in the region and prospects for the development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Sri Lanka. Mutual interest was expressed in intensifying business contacts and expanding partnership in various sectors, which, according to diplomats, has significant potential for giving new impetus to bilateral relations. Both sides confirmed their readiness to continue the dialogue using all available diplomatic channels and cooperation mechanisms. High Commissioner Seneviratne, in turn, shared information on Sri Lanka’s recent development achievements and outlined key areas for future engagement.

The meeting also took place in the context of Ambassador Atajan Movlamov’s status as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Islamabad. He briefed the High Commissioner on the activities of the diplomatic community and the annual events organized by the Dean’s office, and spoke about the coordinating role between the Pakistan Foreign Ministry and the diplomatic community.

The meeting underscored the desire of both countries to strengthen ties and expand cooperation both bilaterally and in regional diplomacy.
