Ashgabat, July 18 | ORIENT. A Turkmen-Japanese business forum is planned to be held in Turkmenistan, which will be an important event for strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Nokerguly Atagulyev at a government meeting held on July 18 under the chairmanship of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The forum is aimed at developing trade and economic ties and attracting investment. Preparations for the event are being carried out at a high organizational level to ensure a productive dialogue between the participants.

On the Japanese side, interest in the forum was shown by companies operating in such areas as investments and services, oil and gas and industrial sectors, production of medical equipment, construction and logistics, education and other areas.

On the Turkmen side, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, as well as ministries and industry departments will take part in the forum. This will allow us to discuss promising projects and strengthen our partnership.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed that Turkmenistan actively participates in international events such as the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, where the country's National Pavilion successfully presents its achievements. The head of state instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to ensure such a level of preparation that the forum becomes an important step in the development of bilateral relations.

On Turkmen-Japanese Relations in Recent Years

Turkmenistan and Japan have maintained constructive cooperation for over 30 years, which is particularly actively developing in the economic sphere. Diplomatic relations established in 1992 laid the foundation for a fruitful partnership.

During his visit to the Land of the Rising Sun, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, having met with representatives of business circles, made a speech in which he defined the main areas of long-term partnership. Thus, the head of the Turkmen state not only strengthened political signals at the highest level, but also offered a clear agenda to Japanese business circles.

Japanese companies such as Mitsubishi Corporation, Sumitomo Corporation, Kawasaki Heavy Industries and ITOCHU Corporation have made significant contributions to the implementation of major infrastructure projects in Turkmenistan, especially in the oil and gas and chemical industries. For example, they participated in the construction of gas processing plants and mineral fertilizer production facilities.

Japan actively supports the modernization of the Turkmen economy on a mutually beneficial basis, providing advanced technologies and investments. In 2015, during the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Ashgabat, a package of agreements was signed aimed at expanding cooperation in energy, industry and infrastructure.

Cooperation is developing within the framework of the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue, which promotes interregional partnership. In 2024, a meeting of the Turkmen delegation with Japanese businessmen was held in Tokyo, where projects in the field of green energy, export of high-tech products and infrastructure were discussed.

Regular meetings of the Turkmen-Japanese Committee on Economic Cooperation, including the 15th meeting last December, have strengthened the dialogue between the countries. Japanese companies highly value the favorable investment climate in Turkmenistan, created by legislation that meets high international standards.

Economic cooperation continues to gain momentum, and the upcoming forum, according to observers, will become a new platform for the implementation of joint projects that will contribute to the prosperity of both countries.
