First Civil Society Forum on Landlocked Countries Held in Awaza
The Civil Society Forum LLDC3 opened in Awaza, ahead of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), which will take place from August 5 to 8.
Organized on August 4–5, the forum is the first event of its kind where representatives of civil society have the opportunity to directly engage with governments, UN bodies, and key partners.
The event aims to identify priorities, build partnerships, and promote solutions that contribute to sustainable development and the implementation of the Avaza Programme of Action.
During the opening, representatives of the Government of Turkmenistan, the United Nations, and civil society emphasized the importance of civic engagement in areas such as sustainable growth, structural transformation, climate resilience, and inclusive innovation.
On the first day, participants discussed pathways to achieving environmentally sustainable and inclusive economic development, especially under arid climate conditions and the specific vulnerabilities of LLDCs.
The second day of the forum focuses on topics such as the digital economy, innovation and access to technologies, as well as reform of the international financial architecture, debt sustainability, and equitable financing.
The forum will conclude with the presentation of a Civil Society Declaration, which will be submitted to the official segment of the LLDC3 Conference and included in its final outcome document.
Among the forum’s partners are the Botswana Council of NGOs (BOCONGO), AFRODAD, Rwanda Civil Society Platform, SEATINI Uganda, Global Policy Forum, LDC Watch, and other organizations from Africa, Asia, and the international civil society community.
The forum highlights the importance of multilateral engagement in addressing the challenges faced by landlocked developing countries and reinforces civil society participation in the global development agenda.
