On the sidelines of the Third UN Conference in Avaza, it was held a meeting between Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova and Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva. The meeting, which took place on August 4, added to the richness of the Parliamentary Forum held today, also emphasizing the high dynamics of bilateral cooperation.

The parties noted with satisfaction that inter-parliamentary relations, based on an active dialogue between the heads of the two states, have reached a qualitatively new level. The successful work of friendship groups and the active participation of delegations in joint events serve as a clear example of this interaction.

A delegation led by Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva took part in the Parliamentary Forum on the theme “Setting the Course: Assisting the Implementation of the Avaza Action Program for Landlocked Developing Countries”. In her speech at the forum, Tanzila Narbaeva emphasized the unique challenges that Uzbekistan faces as one of two countries in the world that needs to cross at least two borders to access the ocean. In this regard, Tashkent’s initiatives to strengthen regional connectivity and integration were presented.

In particular, Uzbekistan proposed establishing a systemic inter-parliamentary dialogue on “green” logistics and the development of modern infrastructure. Particular attention was paid to such major projects as the Trans-Afghan Corridor (Termez – Mazar-i-Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar), which will dramatically expand trade ties between Central and South Asia. The importance of exchanging experience in the field of legislative work, simplification of trade and transit processes, implementation of digital solutions and technological cooperation was also noted.

Thus, the meeting of speakers became not only a demonstration of friendly relations, but also an opportunity to coordinate joint efforts in the implementation of specific initiatives aimed at the development of the entire region.
