Microsoft is beginning to gradually phase out its popular mobile document scanning application, Microsoft Lens, with a full shutdown scheduled for December 2025. The company has attributed this decision to its transition to a unified platform, Microsoft 365 Copilot, which integrates similar functionalities.

Launched in 2014, the application became one of Microsoft's most sought-after free tools, accumulating over 50 million downloads. It enabled users to scan documents, digitize text, and convert files into PDF, Word, and Excel formats.

The discontinuation process will occur in several stages: in mid-September, the application will stop receiving updates; in October, it will no longer be available for download; and in December, all scanning functions will be permanently disabled. Users who migrate to Microsoft 365 Copilot will have access to similar features, and all their previously saved data will remain secure.
