This week, on August 14-15, Tashkent will host the VIII Central Asian Expert Forum (CAEF) under the title “Central Asia – a common space of trust, security and sustainable development”.

Created in 2018, CAEF is held annually in the country chairing the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia. The forum serves as an important platform for discussing the current state and prospects of regional cooperation, as well as developing recommendations for the further development of cooperation in Central Asia.

The Forum is organized by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISRS). The partners of the event are the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, the representative offices of the European Union and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Uzbekistan, and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

Traditionally, Central Asia will be represented at the Forum by heads and specialists of strategic institutes, research centers and academic circles of the states of the region. For the first time, prominent experts from the EU, ASEAN, the Nordic Council, as well as researchers from the Russian Federation, the USA, Great Britain, Switzerland and Azerbaijan have been invited to participate in its work in order to exchange experience in regional studies.

The event's rich program includes consideration of prospects for deepening regional cooperation and identifying specific measures to promote multifaceted interaction.

In addition, separate events will be held within the framework of the Forum: a scientific and practical conference on the formation of regional identity; a round table dedicated to the prospects for establishing a partnership in the Central Asia-Northern Europe format.

It is expected that the upcoming expert dialogue will help identify points of convergence of interests and formulate guidelines for the future development of Central Asia. The recommendations developed will become an important contribution to enriching the agenda of the upcoming Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, which is scheduled to be held this year in Uzbekistan.
