The city of Turkmenbashi hosted festive events dedicated to the Caspian Sea Day, the culmination of which was the scientific and practical conference “The Caspian Sea — a Sea of Friendship and Peace”. It was moderated by Director of the Caspian Sea Institute Myrat Atajanov.

The beginning of the conference was marked by a welcoming message from President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the participants. The event was attended by authorized representatives of Turkmenistan, ambassadors of the Caspian states accredited in Ashgabat, as well as heads of international and regional organizations, including the UN, OSCE and the EU.

In his speech, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov emphasized the active and constructive role of the country in promoting environmental issues in the Caspian, especially within the framework of the Agreement on the Conservation and Rational Use of Aquatic Biological Resources of the Caspian Sea. He also particularly noted the importance of the Caspian Environmental Initiative, put forward by the President of Turkmenistan at the plenary session of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

The conference featured reports on the most pressing issues, including cooperation in the field of hydrometeorology, protection of flora and fauna, and compliance with environmental standards. The participants reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to close cooperation with the Caspian states and international structures.

The outcome was a common statement that the Caspian Sea is a sea of friendship and peace, and a call for continued joint work for the sake of sustainable development and protection of its marine environment.
