Top tech companies like Google and Cisco are reducing the number of virtual interviews and returning to in-person meetings. According to The Wall Street Journal, this shift is a direct response to a rise in AI-powered cheating during virtual interviews.

Recruiters have noticed that during technical interviews, job candidates are increasingly using AI tools to get real-time hints and generate code. In more serious cases, scammers are using AI to impersonate candidates and steal confidential company data and money. To combat this, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has stated that as of September 2025, the company will require at least one in-person interview round.

This trend is becoming widespread. Mike Kyle, Managing Director at Coda Search & Staffing, noted that the percentage of companies requesting in-person interviews has jumped from 5% in 2024 to 30% in 2025. This return to face-to-face interaction allows recruiters to better evaluate a candidate's skills and personality, something that is difficult to do with just a webcam.

AI and Changes in the Labor Market

AI technology is also actively changing the recruitment process. Neural networks and chatbots are now being used not only by tech giants but also by small and medium-sized businesses. Companies use these tools to automate the search for employees, while job seekers use them to create resumes and personalized cover letters.

At the same time, according to CNews, major tech corporations including Intel, IBM, and Google have temporarily frozen new hiring. These companies are betting on AI technologies and automation, anticipating that a significant portion of tasks will be handed over to artificial intelligence in the coming years. Analysts predict that by 2030, the structure of employment in the IT sector will change dramatically.
