Microsoft has altered how it manages updates in its app store. Users can no longer completely disable automatic updates. This decision was made to enhance security, as outdated software can be vulnerable.

Instead of a complete shutdown, users still have the option to pause updates, but only for a limited period. You can select a period of one to five weeks, after which the automatic download and installation of updates will resume. Microsoft has long used the same approach for updating the Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems themselves.

In addition, the company announced it will end support for installing Microsoft Office applications through the Microsoft Store. Feature updates for these apps will conclude in October 2025, and security updates will end in December 2026.
