On September 22, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held a series of meetings with senior representatives of the United Nations.

During the first meeting, the sides discussed Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the UN and its specialized agencies. Special attention was given to the preparation and implementation of the outcomes of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), held from August 4–8, 2025, in the national tourist zone Avaza on the Caspian Sea coast.

Practical measures for implementing the key outcome documents of LLDC3 — the Avaza Political Declaration and the Avaza Programme of Action for 2024–2034 — were reviewed. The Turkmen side emphasized the importance of joint work and expressed readiness to promote the conference’s decisions and initiatives, including organizing joint events dedicated to sustainable development issues.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides confirmed their readiness to expand cooperation within the UN system, strengthen trust, deepen international partnerships, and support the advancement of the global sustainable development agenda.

In the second meeting, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov discussed with UN Deputy Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo the key areas of Turkmenistan’s engagement with the UN in peacekeeping and international security.

Particular attention was given to the development of preventive diplomacy, the activities of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, and the strengthening of regional cooperation mechanisms.

3

The sides also noted Turkmenistan’s initiatives aimed at building mutual trust among states and fostering constructive international dialogue, including the proclamation of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust. The agenda of the 80th General Assembly included the item “Neutrality for Peace and Security”, which envisages consideration of draft resolutions on the role of neutrality in maintaining international peace and the establishment of an International Day of Mediation.

In addition, the participants exchanged views on a wide range of current regional and global issues.
