Student Sports Games “Sport and Youth – the Foundation of a Healthy Society” launched in Turkmenistan
From September 15 to 25, mass sports competitions titled “Sport and Youth – the Foundation of a Healthy Society” will take place in Turkmenistan.
These events are dedicated to the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence and the International Day of University Sport. Their main goal is to widely involve youth in sports and to develop both mass physical culture and high-performance sports. The competitions are held under the leadership of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag, and the Esteemed President Arkadagly Hero Serdar, within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust.
Traditional volleyball, basketball, and futsal competitions aim to promote a healthy lifestyle and serve as a stage in preparing Turkmen athletes for international games.
The main objectives of the competitions:
• To demonstrate the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
• To develop sports in Turkmenistan according to the initiatives of the National Leader.
• To educate youth in the spirit of a healthy lifestyle.
• To widely promote physical education and sports among students.
On September 20, as part of the competitions, the national forum “Sport – a Guarantee of Peace and Trust” was also held, where a representative of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) spoke via video link.
