President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent congratulations to Ms. Catherine Connolly on her assumption of office as President of the Republic of Ireland. Taking this opportunity, the head of state wished President Catherine Connolly good health, happiness, and great success in her work for the continued development and prosperity of Ireland.

On November 11, 2025, the inauguration of 68-year-old Catherine Connolly, the new President of Ireland, took place in Dublin Castle. A politician, lawyer, and psychologist by training, she won a landslide victory in the late October election, garnering over 63% of the vote. The change of power marked the end of Michael D. Higgins' 14-year term.

On September 30, 2025, the Irish Ambassador, Claire Brosnan (with residence in Moscow), was accredited in Ashgabat. Since August 2025, Ambassador Yazmurat Seryayev (with residence in London) has represented Turkmenistan's interests in Dublin. Turkmenistan and Ireland established diplomatic relations in 2007.

As neutral states and members of the UN Group of Friends of Neutrality, Turkmenistan and Ireland place special emphasis on strengthening peace and trust in international relations, particularly within the United Nations.

Ireland declared neutrality during World War II. Then-Prime Minister Éamon de Valera justified this status by arguing that it prevented the country from becoming a pawn in the games of the great powers.
