Turkmenistan is embarking on a large-scale integration of its national equestrian sport into the global system under the auspices of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). Ashgabat's initiatives, including hosting prestigious global forums and show jumping tournaments, were discussed at the organization's headquarters in Lausanne.

During consultations between Vepa Khadzhiev, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office at Geneva, and FEI President Ingmar De Vos and Secretary General Sabrina Ibáñez, an ambitious plan for cooperation for the coming years was outlined.

This intensified dialogue is taking place against the backdrop of the 2026 year, which in Turkmenistan is celebrated under the sign of "winged horses." In this regard, the Turkmen side officially expressed interest in organizing international show jumping competitions jointly with the FEI at the country's modern equestrian complexes.

Moreover, Ashgabat is being considered a promising venue for the FEI General Assembly—the world's premier annual equestrian event, attracting delegates from over 130 countries. The next such forum will be held in December in Guangzhou, China, where the Turkmen delegation intends to discuss the schedule of future events in detail.

Particular emphasis in Lausanne was placed on the development of the Aba Annaev International Equestrian Academy in Arkadag. This involves attracting FEI-certified show jumping instructors and coaches.

This partnership will allow Turkmen riders and specialists to receive training according to the highest international standards, and the Academy itself will become a leading regional center for training equestrian professionals.

These consultations in Lausanne marked one of the final stage of Vepa Khadzhiev's tenure as Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva. In March 2026, by decree of the head of state, he was appointed Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations (New York).
