Ashgabat-Washington Economic Dialogue Focuses on Investment and Technology
On March 27, a meeting of the Joint Working Group on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The parties were led by Deputy Foreign Minister Akhmet Gurbanov and U.S. Ambassador to Turkmenistan Elizabeth Rood. The meeting confirmed that the business agenda of the two countries is entering a stage of qualitative transformation.
The Turkmen-American Business Council remains the main instrument for rapprochement. This platform allows for the direct connection of Turkmenistan's government strategies with innovative solutions from American businesses. By the end of 2025, the partnership demonstrated "positive momentum," which, in diplomatic parlance, means growing interest from U.S. companies in the Turkmen market.
Participants placed particular emphasis on expanding the investment portfolio. This applies not only to the traditional presence of American companies in the fuel and energy sector and agriculture, but also to new niches, including direct U.S. capital participation in Turkmenistan's industrial sector.
The current meeting of the Joint Working Group on Trade and Economic Cooperation is an important signal that the multi-vector nature of the Turkmen economy remains steadfast. After an active week with the European Union, Ashgabat confirms its readiness for a deep dialogue with the United States. For American businesses, Turkmenistan is a predictable partner in a strategically important region, and for Turkmenistan, the United States is, first and foremost, a source of unique technologies and standards necessary for WTO accession.
